Who You Are
Theme For The Week: Our main text for this series of devotionals is from Genesis chapter 1. You can listen to the teaching for the week here.
Intro Prayer: “Jesus, please help me in this time to be fully present to You and to myself that I may commune with You for the sake of your glory and the world around me.”
Silence: In this time, try and become silent before the Lord both internally and externally for 5 minutes. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to stillness.
Praise: Bless the Lord by declaring these truths about Him!
“You are the God of unfailing love. You are upright in all you do. You are unique, there is no one like you. You are the uncreated creator. And though everything around me is changing, you are unchanging and consistent. You understand me more than I understand myself.”
Devotional: As we consider who we are, our starting point is not looking within or looking to our friends or our family to define us. We start by looking to who our Creator and King says that we are. He is the one who made us and knows us, even better than we know ourselves. And he knows who we are created to be.
The Bible says that God made you in His image. That means that you have inherent value and worth because you have something of God embedded inside you. You are designed to reflect his glory in the way you think, the way you love, the way you live and the way you create.
As you read today’s Scripture let the full weight of this truth sink in to you. You don’t have to wonder about who you are or your worth- it’s already settled because you are made by Him!
Scripture: Read today’s text slowly. Feed your spirit on the words. Your goal in this time is to commune with Jesus through His Word. Take note as you sense His Presence.
Genesis 1.27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
Worship: Worship forms the truths of Scripture deep within our lives. This week we will be worshipping to the song Great I Am, which reminds us of the bigness and majesty of God!
Listen: Take time to listen to the Holy Spirit. Write down anything you sense the Lord speaking.
Obedience: What from today is the Lord calling you to put in practice? Could be to pray for someone, to call someone, to serve someone etc.
